"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

Acts 2:38 stands at the heart of the Day of Pentecost. It is the inspired response given by the apostle Peter after the multitude asked a sincere and searching question:

"Men and brethren, what shall we do?"

Peter instructed every believer to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. Baptism is not presented as a human tradition but as an act of obedient faith, identifying the believer with the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

Throughout the book of Acts, believers responded to the gospel by being baptized in the name of Jesus, demonstrating the authority and saving power found in His name alone.

The Gift of the Holy Ghost

Pentecost did not end with repentance and baptism. Peter declared that those who obeyed the gospel would receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, God's abiding presence dwelling within His people.

The Holy Ghost empowers believers to walk in holiness, grow in truth, and faithfully witness to the saving work of Jesus Christ. What began in the upper room continues in every generation that responds to God's invitation.
