CHAPTER FOUR

Crossing the Distance

Joey waited at the small regional airport in Kentucky with anticipation racing through his heart. Anthony from Canada was arriving for the retreat weekend.

Late night conversations and video calls had built a friendship, yet meeting face to face felt entirely different.

Joey scanned the arrival gate.

Then he saw him.

"Joey."

Anthony smiled warmly and lifted his hand in greeting.

The moment felt strangely familiar, almost like reconnecting with someone known much longer than time suggested.

Soon everyone gathered together. Jeffery. Paul. Noelle. Dallas. Brad. Justin. Michelle. Anthony.

Laughter filled the room. Stories flowed naturally.

Yet beneath every conversation Joey felt old thoughts quietly trying to return.

Hold on tighter.

Keep everyone close.

Do not lose connection.

During prayer that evening Anthony shared something unexpected.

"I saw strings of light connecting everyone together. Every connection led back to one radiant hand. Jesus held every strand."
Connections held by Jesus remain stronger than distance.

Joey sat quietly.

The words settled deeply within him.

For so long Joey had believed relationships survived through effort and constant grasping.

Now another truth began emerging.

Jesus held people together better than fear ever could.

Later beneath the stars Joey whispered:

"Jesus, hold them. Hold me."

Peace answered quietly. Distance no longer felt frightening. Love no longer felt fragile.
