Chapter 6
Jesus Saw Everything
Looking back across those years, one truth rises above every memory, every question, every disappointment, and every season of uncertainty. Circumstances changed. Emotions changed. Conversations changed. My understanding of what was happening changed as well. Through every transition and every difficult season, however, one reality remained constant.
Jesus saw everything.
That truth carries a deeper meaning for me now than it did while I was living through those experiences. During many of those years, my attention remained focused upon understanding circumstances that often felt confusing and unpredictable. Questions followed me through ordinary days and accompanied me into quiet moments when there was finally enough silence to think honestly about what I was experiencing. Some questions centered upon relationships. Some centered upon my own responses. Others centered upon decisions that felt increasingly difficult to navigate.
Many of those questions eventually found their way into prayer.
Looking back, some of my most important conversations from that season never occurred with another person. They took place between Jesus and me. Those conversations happened while driving to work, sitting alone at night, walking through ordinary routines, and processing events that continued lingering in my thoughts long after they had ended. Prayer became the place where confusion could be spoken honestly and where burdens could be acknowledged without fear of judgment.
Those prayers rarely sounded polished.
Many consisted of questions rather than declarations. Many reflected uncertainty rather than confidence. More than anything else, I found myself asking for wisdom. Understanding another person's behavior mattered far less than understanding how to walk faithfully through circumstances that often left me feeling conflicted. I wanted clarity. I wanted discernment. I wanted to know how to love well without losing sight of truth. I wanted to know how to extend grace without accepting burdens that did not belong to me.
Answers did not always arrive immediately.
Faith sometimes creates the impression that sincere prayers should produce quick solutions, yet my experience unfolded differently. Jesus remained faithful throughout the journey, though His faithfulness often appeared through His presence rather than through immediate explanations. Looking back now, I recognize that He was teaching me lessons long before I understood what those lessons were.
His presence remained steady during moments when confusion seemed greater than clarity. His presence remained steady when disappointment resurfaced after periods of hope. His presence remained steady during conversations that left me emotionally exhausted and during nights when sleep felt difficult because unanswered questions continued occupying my thoughts.
The remarkable thing about His faithfulness is that it never depended upon my ability to understand what was happening. There were seasons when my thoughts felt tangled and my emotions felt difficult to sort through. There were moments when I wished for simple answers to situations that seemed increasingly complicated. There were times when I questioned my own perceptions because competing explanations made certainty feel difficult to reach.
Jesus remained steady through all of it.
The passage of time has allowed me to recognize how often He was guiding me through realities that I was not yet prepared to fully understand. Certain questions continued returning because they deserved attention. Certain concerns continued resurfacing because they pointed toward truths that needed acknowledgment. Certain realizations emerged gradually because wisdom often develops through a process rather than through a single moment of insight.
While I focused upon individual incidents, Jesus saw the larger pattern.
While I focused upon conversations, Jesus saw the deeper issues beneath them.
While I focused upon immediate concerns, Jesus saw the entire road stretching far beyond the horizon visible to me.
That realization brings tremendous comfort because it reminds me that I was never carrying the journey alone. Even during moments when loneliness felt overwhelming, Jesus remained present. Even during moments when I felt misunderstood, Jesus understood completely. Even during moments when uncertainty seemed stronger than confidence, His faithfulness remained unchanged.
One of the greatest gifts He provided during that season was discernment. Discernment allowed me to see beyond isolated incidents and recognize patterns that had previously remained hidden beneath explanations, apologies, and renewed hope. Discernment helped me separate compassion from responsibility, patience from denial, and grace from the mistaken belief that love alone could solve problems that required accountability.
Those lessons were not easy to learn.
Many arrived through disappointment.
Many arrived through prayer.
Many arrived through experiences that I would never have chosen for myself.
Yet each lesson brought greater clarity, and greater clarity slowly revealed how faithfully Jesus had been leading me all along.
Looking back now, I no longer measure God's faithfulness by how quickly answers arrived. I measure His faithfulness by His presence throughout every season. He was present during every prayer, every tear, every difficult conversation, and every unanswered question. He was present during moments when strength felt abundant and during moments when strength seemed impossible to find.
Most importantly, He was present during seasons when very few people understood what I was carrying.
Jesus saw every struggle.
Jesus saw every fear.
Jesus saw every disappointment.
Jesus saw every burden that love was carrying.
And through every season, His faithfulness never failed.
