Chapter Three

When God Speaks Without Explaining

Maturity is often revealed not by how we respond when God speaks clearly, but by how we remain when He speaks and then grows silent. There was a season when the voice of the Lord seemed to withdraw into stillness. No dreams interrupted my sleep. No confirmations followed my prayers. No emotional reassurance accompanied worship. A quiet instruction remained within my spirit: stay faithful.

This proved more difficult than conflict or correction. Conflict provides something visible to answer. Silence removes dependence on feelings and forces trust to stand upon obedience alone. Milk trained me to expect continual reassurance and repeated direction. Meat required something deeper. Meat taught me that when God speaks once, His Word does not lose authority simply because repetition does not follow.

As silence continued, pressure increased around me. Responsibilities grew heavier. Expectations multiplied. People looked toward me for leadership, direction, and answers I did not feel equipped to provide. Prayer became frequent. Longing for fresh instruction increased. Yet one word continued returning each time: Stand.

One early morning, exhausted and discouraged, sleep came while I prayed. A dream unfolded before me. I found myself standing in an open field while a storm raged around me. Wind pressed hard against my body. Rain soaked every part of me. Instinct searched for shelter and escape. Then I noticed Jesus standing beside me, completely unmoved by the storm. Calm authority rested across His face as He looked toward me and said: I did not tell you to run. I told you to stand.

I woke with unexpected peace. Circumstances remained unchanged. Pressure remained present. Questions remained unanswered. Yet understanding settled deeply within my spirit. God had not withheld direction. God was building endurance. Strengthening resolve had become part of the process. Isaiah 30:21 echoed clearly: This is the way, walk ye in it.

That season reshaped maturity for me. Faithfulness without feeling becomes meat. Trust without explanation becomes growth. Standing when every instinct wants movement becomes obedience at a deeper level. Within that standing, Jesus forms strength that remains unshaken.
