Chapter 7
Learning to Walk Again
Jason's eyes followed the man long after he disappeared from view. The crowd eventually returned to its routines. Conversations resumed. Attention drifted back toward the pool. Yet the image remained fixed in his mind.
For years that man had waited for a moment that finally arrived. Now he faced a challenge he had never expected. He had learned how to survive beside the pool. He had never learned how to live beyond it.
The thought lingered with Jason as the vision continued unfolding around him.
Freedom often arrived as a miracle, but learning to walk in freedom was a journey. The man had received healing in an instant. Understanding what to do with his new life would take time.
As Jason looked beyond the crowd, he caught sight of the man once more. He was moving carefully through the streets, carrying the bed that had once carried him. Every step seemed almost unfamiliar. The simple act of walking appeared filled with wonder, as though he still could not believe what had happened.
People stopped to watch him pass. Some recognized him immediately. Others looked twice, uncertain whether they were seeing the same man who had spent years beside the pool. Questions followed him wherever he went.
Jason noticed something else.
The man occasionally looked back.
His eyes drifted toward Bethesda more than once, lingering on the place that had defined so much of his life. The pool represented pain, disappointment, and years of waiting. Yet it also represented familiarity. Leaving it behind meant stepping into a future he did not fully understand.
The realization stirred memories of conversations Jason had carried throughout ministry. Many people prayed for change until change finally arrived. Then they discovered that moving forward required faith as well. Old habits did not disappear overnight. Old fears often lingered. Familiar patterns sometimes called people backward even after Jesus had called them forward.
The journey of restoration involved more than a moment. It involved learning to trust God with each new step.
As he continued watching, Jason became aware that Jesus remained nearby. Christ was no longer speaking directly to the man, yet His presence carried the quiet assurance of someone who knew exactly where the road ahead would lead.
The thought brought comfort.
Jesus never abandoned people after restoring them. He remained the author of every chapter that followed. The same grace that healed was the grace that sustained. The same voice that called people forward continued guiding them long after the miracle itself had passed.
Jason looked around and realized that Bethesda contained more than one person who needed to learn that lesson. The crowd remained filled with people longing for healing, yet every healed life would eventually face the same invitation. The invitation was not merely to receive restoration. The invitation was to walk in it.
The church God was revealing through the vision suddenly appeared clearer than ever before. It could not become merely a place where people experienced powerful moments with God. It had to become a place where people learned how to live transformed lives. Healing mattered. Deliverance mattered. Restoration mattered. Yet those experiences were never intended to be destinations. They were beginnings.
The man who once lay beside the pool understood that now, even if he could not yet put it into words. Every step carried him farther from the place where he had waited and closer to the life Jesus had opened before him.
Jason sensed another layer of understanding settling into his heart. Many people measured their lives by what had happened to them. Jesus measured their lives by what they could become through Him.
That difference changed everything.
The years beside the pool no longer defined the man. His weakness no longer defined him. His disappointments no longer defined him. The story was moving forward, and Jesus was writing a new chapter.
As the sun lowered over the city and the shadows lengthened across the streets, Jason realized that the vision had never been about Bethesda alone. The pool was simply where the story began. The greater miracle was what happened afterward, when people discovered how to live in the freedom they had been given.
Standing quietly within the vision, Jason felt hope rise within him. The house God was calling him to build would not exist merely to help people encounter Jesus. It would help them continue walking with Him long after the encounter.
The thought remained with him as the vision slowly widened once more. Somewhere ahead, another lesson was waiting. Another piece of the story remained hidden beyond the horizon. Yet for the first time, Jason understood that every step mattered.
The journey was no longer about reaching the pool.
The journey was about learning to walk with Jesus wherever He led.
