The Fragrance Banner
CHAPTER TWO

The Woman and the Alabaster Box

Elena had carried the perfume for years. More than a fragrance, the crystal bottle had become a symbol of everything she once hoped life would be and everything life had eventually become.

She had purchased it during a season when the future finally seemed bright, during a time when hope had begun returning and possibilities felt endless again. Joy had seemed close enough to touch.

The bottle itself was exquisite, crafted from crystal that caught the light and scattered reflections like tiny prisms across nearby walls.

Inside rested spikenard imported from the Himalayas, a fragrance so rare and valuable that the price could have covered an entire year of living expenses.

Most people could only imagine owning something so extravagant.

Wealthy families reserved treasures like this for grand celebrations and once in a lifetime moments.

For Elena, however, the perfume meant far more than luxury.

The bottle had quietly become a keeper of dreams.

Life, however, unfolded differently than she expected.

The wedding never came.

Dreams that once seemed certain slowly began slipping away.

Years passed, yet Elena never opened it.

Then Joshua entered the city.

Others saw brokenness.

Joshua saw people.

Others saw shame.

Joshua saw worth.

As the perfume poured out, so did everything she had carried.

The weight of years. The chains of regret. The grief of dreams that never happened.

So she gave freely.

She gave completely.

She gave Him everything.
