Addiction Prevention — Standing Strong in Christ

1 Corinthians 10:13

Scripture:

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

Devotion:

Pressure shows up in many forms. Responsibilities, emotional weight, and internal struggles can build quietly until relief feels necessary. The world offers quick escapes, yet many of those paths lead deeper into bondage rather than freedom.

Addiction creates the illusion of refuge. Substances, habits, and patterns promise comfort while slowly taking control. What begins as relief often becomes dependency. What feels like help becomes a trap.

God calls you out of that cycle and into light. Freedom is not found in escape. Freedom is found in Him.

Temptation is not unique, and you are not powerless. God remains faithful in every moment of pressure. A way out always exists. That way may look simple, yet powerful. A prayer in the moment. A step away from the environment. A conversation with someone trusted. A choice to pause instead of react.

Strength is not found in pretending struggle does not exist. Strength is found in choosing God within the struggle.

Prevention begins before the moment of temptation. A life anchored in truth creates stability when pressure rises. Time in God’s Word, honest relationships, and healthy rhythms build a foundation that keeps the heart steady.

Isolation feeds addiction. Connection strengthens healing.

Choose purpose over escape. Choose truth over temporary relief. Choose Christ over every counterfeit.

Prayer:

Father, You are my strength and my refuge. Help me recognize temptation clearly and respond with wisdom. Lead me toward healthy choices and steady relationships that strengthen my life. Give me courage to reach out, discipline to walk away, and faith to choose You daily. In Jesus’ name, amen.
