Don’t Amen a Lie

1 Thessalonians 5:21

Scripture:

“But test and prove all things [until you can recognize] what is good; [to that] hold fast.” 1 Thessalonians 5:21

Devotion:

In a time when voices are loud and opinions are plenty, it’s easy to nod along, raise a hand, and say “Amen” without thinking. But agreeing with something just because it sounds spiritual or because everyone else is; is dangerous when it lacks the foundation of truth.

“Amen” means more than just agreement; it’s a declaration of belief. When we say it, we’re putting our spiritual stamp on what’s been said. But if what’s being spoken isn’t aligned with God’s Word, then our agreement becomes an echo of deception instead of a confirmation of truth.

This is why discernment matters. The Bible tells us to “test all things.” Not some things. All. Before we agree, before we share, before we clap and confirm, we must stop and ask: Is this truth, or just noise?

We can’t afford to say “amen” to what we haven’t tested in the Word or in the Spirit. Because false affirmations don’t just mislead others, they can confuse our own walk with God. If we keep feeding on half-truths and hollow teachings, we’ll starve ourselves of the real Bread of Life.

Let’s be people who don’t just echo what we hear but stand on what we know. Let our “amen” be anchored in truth, not hype. And when we hear something that doesn’t line up with the character or Word of God, let’s have the boldness to stay silent or speak up.

Prayer:

Father, give me discernment in these days of loud voices and shallow truths. Teach me to test what I hear and only agree with what reflects Your heart and Word. Let my “amen” be true. Keep me anchored in truth, not popularity. In Jesus’ name, amen.
