Holiness: A Gift, not a Burden

Ephesians 2:8

Scripture:

“You are saved by God’s free gift of grace, through your faith. This salvation is not something you earned or worked for; it is a gift from God.” Ephesians 2:8

Devotion:

Have you ever felt like holiness is too much to carry? Like God is asking for something you can’t live up to? You’re not alone. Many sincere hearts wrestle with the weight of wanting to be holy but feeling like they always fall short.

But here’s the truth: holiness was never meant to be a burden. Holiness is not about perfect performance; it’s about perfect love reaching down to shape your life.

God never said, “Make yourself holy so I will love you.” He said, “Because I love you, I will make you holy.” Holiness is His work in you. It’s His presence purifying your heart, His Spirit renewing your mind, and His grace empowering you to live differently.

You don’t have to fake perfection or hide your flaws. You just have to say, “Here I am, Lord. Change me.” And He will. Slowly. Gently. Powerfully.

When you see holiness as a burden, you’ll always feel exhausted and unworthy. But when you receive it as a gift, you’ll feel grateful and free.

Reflection Questions:

• Have you been trying to achieve holiness, or receive it?
• What parts of your life are you holding back from God’s transforming grace?
• Can you thank Him for the process even when it feels slow?

Prayer:

Holy God, thank You that I don’t have to make myself holy on my own. Thank You for the gift of Your Son, who made a way for me to be clean. I surrender my efforts and open my heart to Your Spirit. Make me holy not through rules, but through love. Teach me to walk with You in grace and truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.
