Devotion:
What happens when fear becomes so heavy that stepping outside feels unbearable, being around people feels overwhelming, and trusting again seems impossible? What if faith does not look like courage, but like sitting alone in a quiet room, unsure of what to say to God?
God understands.
Scripture is filled with people like this. Not the fearless heroes we often imagine. People who were overwhelmed, wounded, afraid, and alone.
They were hiding, hurting, uncertain, and weak.
Yet God did not wait for them to become brave or confident. He came close anyway
They were hiding, hurting, uncertain, and weak.
Encouragement:
The Woman Who Couldn’t Be Around People (Luke 8:43–48)
Twelve years she suffered, bleeding and marked as unclean. She lived on the outside, avoided by others, afraid of crowds. She came quietly, knowing the risk of being seen and judged.
Still, a small hope stirred within her.
She said to herself, “If I can just touch His robe.”
So, she reached, quietly and trembling. The moment she touched Jesus, everything changed.
Jesus stopped the entire crowd, not to shame her, to restore her.
He called her daughter.
He said, “Your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”
Her faith was not loud or confident. It was hesitant and afraid. Yet it was enough.
Faith does not always shout.
Sometimes it is a trembling hand reaching toward mercy.
Thomas Who Couldn’t Believe (John 20:24–29)
Thomas was not with the others when Jesus first appeared. When they told him Jesus was alive, he answered honestly,
“Unless I see the marks and touch them, I will not believe.”
Jesus did not shame him or dismiss him.
Standing before Thomas, He said,
“Put your finger here. See My hands. Stop doubting and believe.”
In that moment, Thomas did not argue or hide.
He cried, “My Lord and my God!”
Even doubt is a place Jesus is willing to enter.
Prayer:
Lord, You know my fears. You see the walls around me, not only the ones I can touch, even the ones in my mind and heart. At times I feel stuck, and at times belief feels unreachable.
Yet You are the God who went to the tombs, who stopped for a woman in the crowd, who whispered in a cave, and who showed Your wounds to a doubting friend.
I may feel anxious, hesitant, or weary, but I still want You. Meet me here. Heal me gently. Help me to believe again, one breath, one step, one quiet prayer at a time.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
