Rest in Christ

When You're Running on Empty

Matthew 11:28

← Return to Rest in Christ

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]”

Matthew 11:28 AMPC

There are seasons when simply making it through the day feels like an accomplishment. Your body is tired, your mind won't slow down, and your heart feels stretched beyond its limits. Responsibilities pile up, expectations grow heavier, and even the smallest task can feel overwhelming.

When life leaves you running on empty, Jesus does not respond with disappointment. He responds with an invitation.

Come Before You Collapse

Jesus never asked His followers to carry every burden alone. His words were simple: "Come to Me." He did not say, "Come after you've figured everything out," or "Come once you've become stronger." He simply invites the weary to come exactly as they are.

God understands your limitations better than you do. He knows when your strength is fading, when anxiety is growing, and when your soul desperately needs His peace.

Rest Is More Than Sleep

Physical rest is important, but Jesus offers something even deeper. He offers rest for the soul. This kind of rest calms anxious thoughts, steadies fearful hearts, and reminds us that our identity is not found in constant productivity but in being His beloved children.

The world measures our worth by how much we accomplish. Jesus measures our lives by our relationship with Him. His presence refreshes us in ways no vacation, schedule, or accomplishment ever could.

God never asked you to carry tomorrow's burdens with today's strength.

Strength for Today

You may not have enough strength for next week, but God promises grace for today. His mercies are new every morning, and His strength is made perfect in our weakness. Every time we choose to come to Him instead of carrying everything ourselves, we discover that He has been carrying us all along.

When your heart feels empty, return to the One who never runs out of peace, mercy, or strength. His invitation still stands: "Come to Me."

Prayer

Jesus, I am weary, and I need the rest that only You can give. Quiet the noise in my mind, strengthen my tired heart, and remind me that I do not have to carry every burden alone. Help me trust You with what feels too heavy for me today. Fill me with Your peace, renew my strength, and teach me to rest in Your presence instead of striving in my own strength. In Jesus' name, amen.
