How to Read Character Studies

Avoid focusing on a single event. Follow each person's life from beginning to end to understand the full picture.

Notice God's Faithfulness

The Bible ultimately points to God's character. Look for His guidance, mercy, justice, and faithfulness throughout each account.

Learn from Successes

Celebrate examples of faith, obedience, courage, humility, and perseverance that encourage your own walk with God.

Learn from Failures

Scripture honestly records human weakness so that we may grow in wisdom and avoid repeating the same mistakes.

Look for Jesus

Every part of Scripture contributes to God's plan of redemption. Ask how each life points forward to Christ or reveals God's saving work.

Apply the Lesson

After each study, ask how God's Word should shape your faith, your decisions, and your daily walk with Him.

God Still Works Through People

Your Story Matters Too

The men and women of the Bible were not perfect people. They experienced fear, failure, joy, victory, doubt, repentance, and restoration. Yet through every circumstance, God remained faithful to His promises and continued accomplishing His purposes.

As you study their lives, remember that the same God who called Abraham, strengthened Moses, restored David, encouraged Esther, transformed Peter, and commissioned Paul is still at work today. He continues to shape ordinary people for His glory through faith, obedience, and His grace.

Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition...
1 Corinthians 10:11

A Prayer Before You Study

Teach Me Through Their Lives

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for preserving the lives of faithful men and women in Your Word. As I study their stories, help me to learn from their faith, avoid their failures, and recognize Your faithfulness throughout every generation.

Teach me to trust You more completely, obey You more faithfully, and grow in wisdom through Your Word. May every character study draw my attention to Your grace, Your truth, and Your plan revealed through Jesus Christ.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
