Preface

Every book begins with a question. Some questions are quickly answered and soon forgotten. Others remain with us, quietly shaping the way we think, the way we see people, and the way we understand God. The question that gave birth to this book was one that continued returning to my heart. Who made you judge?

At first, I believed I was writing a book about judgment. As the journey unfolded, however, I discovered that God was writing something much deeper within me. He was not merely asking me to examine how I viewed others. He was inviting me to examine my own heart.

The longer I studied the Scriptures, the more I realized that Jesus never lowered God's standard of holiness, yet He continually reached toward people with mercy. He confronted sin without humiliating sinners. He spoke truth without abandoning compassion. He exposed pride while extending grace. Again and again, His life revealed that truth and mercy are never enemies. They are beautifully united in His character.

This book is not an argument against discernment, accountability, or biblical conviction. Scripture calls believers to pursue truth faithfully and to live lives marked by holiness. Rather, these pages invite us to consider the spirit in which those truths are carried. They ask us to examine whether our words, attitudes, and actions truly reflect the heart of Christ.

Throughout this journey we will walk through some of the most familiar stories in Scripture. We will begin in the Garden of Eden where blame first entered the human story. We will stand beside David, Peter, Paul, and many others whose lives reveal both the seriousness of sin and the greatness of God's mercy. We will enter the temple courtyard where stones fell from accusing hands. Above all, we will stand before Jesus Christ, whose life perfectly demonstrates the balance of truth, grace, justice, humility, and redemption.

My hope is not simply that you will gain new information. Information alone has never transformed a heart. My prayer is that these pages encourage deeper reflection, greater humility, and a renewed appreciation for the mercy that every believer has received through Jesus Christ.

As you read, I encourage you not to rush. Allow the Scriptures to speak for themselves. Consider each chapter prayerfully. Ask the Lord not only what He wants you to understand, but also what He desires to transform within your own heart.

If, somewhere along these pages, you find yourself putting down a stone you have carried for far too long, then this journey will have accomplished far more than words alone ever could.

Truth without grace becomes harsh. Grace without truth becomes empty. Jesus demonstrated both perfectly.

Thank you for opening this book and allowing me to walk beside you for a little while. It is my sincere prayer that when you reach the final page, you will not simply know more about judgment. Instead, you will know Jesus more deeply, love His Word more faithfully, and reflect His character more completely.

May the Holy Spirit guide every step of this journey.
