What happens when the way we understand authority is challenged by the truth of God’s Word?

What does it truly mean to submit to Jesus Christ? How should believers respond to leadership? Where is the boundary between biblical submission and human control? And what happens when the very people entrusted with spiritual responsibility fail to reflect the character of the One they claim to serve?

Beyond the Veil was written to bring these difficult questions into the light.

Authority, obedience, submission, and accountability are subjects that reach into every area of our lives. They influence our relationships, our churches, our families, our workplaces, and our understanding of what it means to follow Jesus Christ. Yet these subjects can become misunderstood when outward compliance is valued more than inward transformation, when questions are treated as rebellion, or when a position of leadership is allowed to stand above honest accountability.

This book calls readers to look beyond appearances and examine the heart.

Through biblical teaching, personal reflection, and practical application, Bradley Hobbs explores the responsibility of those who lead, the responsibility of those who follow, the necessity of correction, and the importance of recognizing that all human authority remains accountable to God.

The message is not that authority should be rejected, nor that every disagreement represents wrongdoing. It is that authority must be understood through the truth of God’s Word and exercised with humility, integrity, and responsibility.

Submission must never become an excuse for manipulation. Respect must never require dishonesty. Forgiveness must never be confused with pretending that harm did not occur. And spiritual leadership must never become a substitute for personal accountability before Jesus Christ.

At the heart of this book is a call to move beyond appearances and return to the foundation of genuine spiritual life: a heart surrendered to Jesus Christ.

The Inspiration Behind the Book

One of the works that helped inspire the questions behind this book was John Bevere’s Under Cover, which examines the relationship between divine authority, submission, obedience, and leadership. Its treatment of these subjects prompted further reflection on how believers understand authority and how their responses shape their spiritual lives.

Beyond the Veil grew from a desire to explore these important biblical principles through an original work with its own direction, structure, and emphasis.

While the subject matter may lead readers to consider similar questions about authority and obedience, this book approaches those questions through a particular focus on the heart, the responsibilities attached to leadership, the danger of spiritual control, and the accountability that every person carries before God.

The purpose is not simply to ask whether believers are willing to submit. It is also to ask what kind of authority they are submitting to, whether that authority is being exercised righteously, and whether their own lives reflect genuine submission to Jesus Christ.

The inspiration behind this work is a conviction that biblical truth must be examined honestly, applied faithfully, and never separated from the responsibility to walk in righteousness.

A Call to Look Within

It is easy to recognize the failures of others. It is more difficult to allow truth to examine our own motives.

A leader may need to reconsider how authority is exercised. A believer may need to examine a resistant heart. Someone who has been hurt may need the freedom to recognize what happened without allowing that experience to define every future relationship. Another person may need the courage to acknowledge wrongdoing and take responsibility for the harm caused.

Each of these situations calls for honesty before God.

This book invites readers to approach the subject of authority with both conviction and discernment. It challenges the misuse of spiritual influence while also challenging pride, stubbornness, and the refusal to receive legitimate correction. It encourages accountability without humiliation, forgiveness without denial, and obedience without surrendering discernment.

Above all, it calls readers to remember that no human title, reputation, position, or platform can take the place of a life faithfully submitted to Jesus Christ.

The veil is lifted when we stop looking only at what others are doing and allow God’s truth to reveal what must change within us.

That is the journey of Beyond the Veil.

The Heart of the Message

This is an invitation to examine what we believe about authority, how we respond when obedience becomes difficult, how we treat those entrusted to our care, and whether we are willing to let God’s truth correct us.

The ultimate goal is not merely to become more knowledgeable about authority. It is to become more faithful in the way we live.

May these pages encourage honest reflection, strengthen biblical discernment, challenge unhealthy patterns, and lead readers toward a deeper commitment to Jesus Christ.

Because beyond every title, every position, every expectation, and every human voice, there remains one unchanging truth:

Everything answers to God.
