Calling & Obedience

Stir Your Gift with
Anticipation and Obedience

2 Timothy 1:6 • 1 Samuel 15:22

← Return to Calling & Obedience

“That is why I would remind you to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you by means of the laying on of my hands.”

2 Timothy 1:6 AMPC

“And Samuel said, Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.”

1 Samuel 15:22 AMPC

God has placed unique gifts, abilities, and callings within every believer. These gifts are not meant to remain hidden or dormant. Like a fire that requires fresh fuel, they are meant to be stirred, cultivated, and faithfully used for His glory.

Many people wait for the perfect opportunity before stepping forward, but God often asks us to be faithful with what He has already placed in our hands.

Stir the Fire

Paul reminded Timothy to rekindle the gift God had already given him. Notice that Paul did not tell Timothy to search for another gift. He encouraged him to strengthen the one he already possessed.

God has already equipped you for the work He has called you to do. Your responsibility is not to compare your calling with someone else's, but to faithfully develop and use what He has entrusted to you.

Obedience Before Sacrifice

King Saul believed that impressive sacrifices could compensate for incomplete obedience. God made it clear that outward acts of sacrifice can never replace a heart that simply obeys His voice.

Sometimes we search for extraordinary ways to serve God while overlooking the ordinary acts of obedience He has already asked of us. The greatest demonstration of faith is often found in the next faithful step.

God is not asking you to impress Him. He is asking you to obey Him.

Move with Expectation

As you stir your gift, do so with joyful anticipation. Believe that God will open doors, strengthen your faith, and accomplish His purposes through your willingness to obey. The power is never found in the gift itself, but in the God who gave it.

Don't wait until you feel completely prepared. Walk forward in faith today. As you obey, God will continue shaping, strengthening, and using you for His kingdom.

Prayer

Father, thank You for every gift and calling You have placed within me. Forgive me for the times I have allowed fear, hesitation, or comparison to keep me from using them. Help me stir the gifts You have already entrusted to me with faith, humility, and joyful expectation. Teach me to obey Your voice quickly and faithfully, trusting that You will accomplish Your purposes through my willingness. May my life bring glory to You in everything I do. In Jesus' name, amen.
