Writing about faith in the places where life does not always make sense.

I Did Not Begin Writing Because Life Was Easy.

Bradley Hobbs, author of Alone at the Altar

I write because there are moments in life that cannot always be explained while you are living through them. Some experiences leave questions behind. Others leave memories that continue to speak long after the moment has passed. Writing became one way of giving those moments a place to be honest.

Alone at the Altar comes from that place. It is not a story written from a distance. It was shaped by faith, fatherhood, loss, prayer, and the continuing discovery that God remains present even when life becomes difficult to understand.

There were seasons when I did not know what to pray, who to talk to, or how to explain what was happening inside me. I kept working. I kept showing up. I kept going to church. And I kept praying. But sometimes I did not have the words.

Special Love and Hold Me While I Cry became more than songs to me. They became reminders of God's presence when I could not see a way forward. When I did not know what else to do, I could listen, pray, and remember that God was still there.

Those songs became part of the thread that kept me close to God through a season I did not understand. I would listen. I would pray. Sometimes I would cry. Sometimes I would simply sit quietly before God. I did not know then how much those moments would become part of my story.

Eventually, that season became years. Six and a half years of marriage, family, responsibility, questions, separation, loss, and trying to understand what I could not control. And through it all, I kept finding my way back to God.

That is where Alone at the Altar was born. Not from having all the answers, but from discovering that even when I felt completely alone, God had never left me alone.

I was alone at the altar, but I was never alone with God.

Why I Write

Because Some Things
Need to Be Said
Honestly.

I am not interested in pretending that faith means life will never hurt.

Faith has carried me through beautiful moments, but it has also remained with me through questions, uncertainty, disappointment, and seasons when I did not know what I was supposed to do next.

My writing comes from the belief that honesty does not weaken faith. Sometimes honesty is the place where faith finally has room to breathe.

What Matters Most

The Things That
Give the Story
Its Meaning.

Faith, family, truth, and hope are at the heart of what matters most to me. Faith matters because I have learned that believing does not mean pretending life is always easy. Faith gives me the courage to ask questions, to be honest with God, and to keep walking even when I do not understand what is happening around me. Family matters because the people we love give our lives weight and purpose, and my experiences have taught me that love is not measured only by what we can control. Sometimes love means remaining present in prayer, continuing to care, and trusting God with the people who matter most. Truth matters because I believe we have to be willing to stop pretending and bring the real story into the light, even when that story includes pain, mistakes, unanswered questions, and things we wish had happened differently. Hope matters because difficult chapters do not always become the final chapter. I write with the belief that God can meet us in places we never expected to be and that, even when we cannot see what comes next, we can continue moving forward with faith.

A Note to the Reader

If You Found
Your Way Here,
I Hope You Know This.

You do not have to have every answer before you come to God.

You do not have to understand everything before you pray.

And you do not have to hold everything together alone.

Alone at the Altar is a story about the prayers nobody heard and the God who did.
